Yes. All NBASLPA registrants are required to renew by December 1st each year, including provisional registrants. If you have not completed your online renewal and paid the fees by December 31st, your registration will be expired. The Public Register will reflect your expired status, and your employer will also be notified.

We will reply confirming which email address is connected to your NBASLPA registrant portal account.
You must provide an email address that you can access all the time, anywhere. When selecting an email address for your account, keep in mind that we use your email address as our primary communication tool. This includes:
- registration renewal,
- quality assurance requirements,
- practice advice and
- other important programs and updates.
NBASLPA recommends you do NOT use your work email because you may not always have access (e.g. on leave, take another job, your work spam filters NBASLPA email out). If you decide to use your work email, be prepared to troubleshoot any work-related spam filter server issues and adjust accordingly.
If you change your job, or take a leave whereby you no longer have access to your work email, you must update your Registrant Portal profile account within 30 days with an email address where you can be reached.
No. You need to complete the renewal form yourself. You are making a legal declaration that someone else cannot do on your behalf.
You are required to renew based on your current status with NBASLPA which is listed in your registrant profile. NBASLPA will notify you once your status has been changed from provisional to practising.
Starting in December 2025, registrants must provide 750 hours of client/patient care or related work in audiology or speech-language pathology over the most recent three-year period. For more information, please refer to Currency Hours FAQs.
Please refer to Currency Hours FAQs.
Estimate the number of hours you will work in the month of December and include it in your calculations for the year to submit at registration renewal. In January, if there was a significant difference between your estimated hours for December and your actual hours, please notify the deputy registrar with your amended number and the adjustment will be made.
To change your status from non-practising to practising, you must fulfill the following requirements:
- proof of continued participation in the CEE program (45 CEE per 3-year cycle) during your registration as a non-practising registrant
- proof of eligibility to work in Canada (if it isn’t already on file)
- criminal records check
- proof of personal professional liability insurance (PLI)
- verification of registration if registered and practising in another regulated jurisdiction
- currency hours obtained during the 3-year period prior to application for reinstatement to practising
If you have not accumulated 750 hours of patient/client care or related work in the most recent three years, your application for a practising registration must be reviewed by the Registrar or a panel of the NBASLPA’s Registration and Competence Committee before your certificate is reinstated. This review process takes approximately 30 days to complete. If you do not meet the required hours, you should request a change of status well in advance of the date you wish to return to practice.
If a non-practicing registrant applies for a practising registration and has not provided 750 hours of patient/client care or related work in their profession in the most recent 3 years, they may be subject to one or a combination of the following as deemed necessary by the Registrar or the Registration and Competence Committee:
- refresher education training
- restrictions and/or limitation on areas of practice
- specified period of mentorship
- successful completion of a national competency examination as recognized by NBASLPA
It is more cost-effective request a status change to a practising registration during the renewal period compared to doing so during the registration year. A request to change your status during renewal does not incur any additional application fees. However, if you request a status change during the registration year, you will be required to pay a $100 application fee and the difference between the practising and non-practising annual fees (i.e., $350).
Log in to your NBASLPA profile, and in the Renew registration section, select “Resign”. Complete the form and declarations.
After your resignation request has been completed, you will get an email confirmation.
Please note that if you intend to return to work in New Brunswick after resigning from NBASLPA, you may be required to:
- submit a complete application. Please be aware that you may be required to provide documentation that was not necessary at the time of your initial NBASLPA registration application.
- satisfy all entry-to-practice requirements in effect at the time of your reapplication. This may include completing additional coursework or practicum hours, as well as passing the Canadian Entry to Practice Exam.
As a Reminder: You cannot begin to work or hold yourself out in any way as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist in New Brunswick until your registration to practise has been reinstated.
- If you have resigned from NBASLPA during the registration renewal period (October 1 - December 1) and wish to reverse your decision within the same period, you may do so and complete your renewal without penalty.
- If you have resigned from NBASLPA during the registration renewal period and regret your decision after the registration renewal period has ended but before December 31 of the registration year, you may reverse your resignation but will be subject to a late renewal fee.
- If you have resigned from NBASLPA and regret your decision after December 31 of the registration year, you will need to reapply as a new applicant. Please be aware that you may be required to provide documentation that was not necessary at the time of your initial NBASLPA registration application. You will need to satisfy all entry-to-practice requirements in effect at the time of your reapplication. This may include completing additional coursework or practicum hours, as well as passing the Canadian Entry to Practice Exam.
If you have moved or plan to move out of the province before the renewal deadline, you have the following renewal options:
- Resignation: Choose this option if you will no longer be practicing in New Brunswick as of January 1, 2025, and do not plan to return to practice as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist in New Brunswick in the future.
- You may also choose this option if you are already registered in another regulated jurisdiction in Canada. If you have not yet applied for registration in the jurisdiction to which you have relocated or plan to relocate, we recommend maintaining your registration with NBASLPA until your new registration is complete. This ensures you can apply to another regulatory body in Canada under Labour Mobility provisions, which offers a more streamlined process.
- Non-Practising Registration: Choose this option if you are relocating to an unregulated jurisdiction in Canada (e.g., the territories) or another country and might return to practice in New Brunswick in the future. Please note that an unregulated jurisdiction may still require you to maintain a practising registration in a regulated jurisdiction. Please verify their requirements before changing your status with NBASLPA.
- You may also choose this option if you are already registered in another regulated jurisdiction in Canada. If you have not yet applied for registration in the jurisdiction to which you have relocated or plan to relocate, we recommend maintaining your practising registration with NBASLPA until your practising registration in the new regulated jurisdiction is complete. This ensures you can apply to another regulatory body in Canada under Labour Mobility provisions, which offers a more streamlined process.
If you are no longer practising, you may select one of the following options for renewal:
- Non-Practising registration: Consider this option if there is a chance that you will return to practise in the future. If you decide to return to work, your practising registration may be reinstated if you have provided 750 hours of patient care or related work in audiology or speech-language pathology during the three years immediately preceding the date you apply to reinstate your practising registration and pay any applicable fees. If you have not provided 750 hours of patient care or related work in audiology or speech-language pathology during the three years immediately preceding the date you apply to reinstate your practising registration, the Registration and Competence Committee will consider your case and may require you to successfully complete a period of mentorship, further education, and/or training.
-
- If you plan to practise in another regulated jurisdiction, you may want to maintain your practising registration with NBASLPA. This will allow you to apply to the other jurisdiction through Labour Mobility provisions, offering a more streamlined process. Once your registration in the new jurisdiction is complete, you can choose to change your status to non-practising or resign from NBASLPA.
- If you plan to practise in an unregulated jurisdiction, you may be required to maintain practising registration in a regulated jurisdiction. Please review the requirements of the unregulated jurisdiction before changing your status or resigning from NBASLPA.
- Resignation: Choose this option if you no longer wish to be a registrant of NBASLPA. However, if you later decide that you want to return to work in New Brunswick, you may be required to:
-
- submit a complete application.
If you select one of the above options at renewal, you will not be able to practise as of the effective date. You should not change your status if you wish to continue to practise in the new registration period.
Many registrants may retire from their employment but may wish to perform some facet of work in their field. Carefully consider the activities you want to be engaged in before you change your status. Regardless of when in the registration year you retire (once we are beyond the renewal period), there is no pro-rated refund available to you and an application fee may also be applicable if you wish to change your status midway through the registration year.
We recommend that you change your status to non-practising certificate when you renew your registration. Changing your status during the renewal process does not require any additional application fees.
Selecting the Non-Practising category at renewal time means you are not practising for the full registration period from January 1st to December 31st . Therefore, if you are renewing your registration and if you will not be practising during the upcoming registration period, you have the option of changing your certificate to a non-practising status.
If you choose to change your status to non-practising after renewing as a practising registrant effective January 1st, there is no pro-rated refund available for the practising annual fee payment you have already made. If you decide to renew as a non-practising registrant and then decide to change your status mid-year, you will not save money. Here is why: If you wish to return to work between January 1st and December 31st, you must apply to change your status back to the Practising category and you will incur the cost of changing your status ($100), as well as the cost of making up the difference between Non-Practising fee and Practising registration fee ($850 - $500 = $350). These fees ($100 + $350) would be applied.
With the additional fee and administrative processing time associated with changing categories, many registrants often decide to maintain their Practising status while on leave.
Log in to the Registrant Portal, and in the Registration section, select “Tax Receipt”. You can also find them in the My Invoices section and check the box “include paid”.
No. There is no proration of fees or refund of fees for partial year registration.
Log in to the Registrant Portal and select My profile. In the identification section, you will see the option to change your name and upload the proof of name change. Acceptable documentation is listed next to the upload button.
The information about your expired previous registration must remain on NBASLPA’s files.
All registrants can opt-in or opt out have having their employer visible on the public register. Update your profile to make the change.
In Alinity:
- Do you need to make changes to the above employer? Select “Yes”.
- In the Employment section, under “Changes”, Do you want this record to be displayed on the public register? Select “Yes” or “No”.
If you are a practising registrant, you must keep up your insurance while on parental leave.
If you become a non-practicing registrant of NBASLPA while on parental leave, personal professional liability insurance is not required. However, if you return to a practising registration status, you must obtain personal professional liability insurance coverage.
Registrants should upload their PLI throughout the year when their insurance expires. You are required to provide the name, policy #, expiration date, and upload the policy certificate. This is in the Profile Update section.
Please refer to: PLI Requirements / Exigences ARP
Yes, if you are in CEE Cycle A, you will need to manually re-enter your 2022 CEE credits into the new Alinity portal. You can refer to your CEE confirmation email that you received in 2022 for the details of the credits earned in 2022 and re-record them in the new portal. This step will only be necessary once all phases of the system transition are complete.
If you fail to renew your registration by the deadline of December 1, you may still renew until December 31, but a late registration fee will apply.
If you do not renew your registration by December 31, including paying any applicable late fees, your license will expire as of January 1. This means you will no longer be legally entitled to present yourself as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist in New Brunswick, nor will you be allowed to practice. Additionally, a letter will be sent to your employer notifying them of the expiration of your license due to the failure to renew your registration. Your record will state "not in good standing". The Public Register will state "expired due to failure to renew".
