Speech and Hearing Month

Speech & Hearing Month

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

You may know that the month of MAY is Speech and Hearing Month. What does that mean? Throughout the month of May speech-language pathologists and audiologists across the country reach out to the public to raise awareness of what we do, how we do it and why we are important professionals in the areas of health and education.

This is a unique year in that, because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are unable to reach out personally to those we serve to carry out our mission of awareness raising in May. Many of us have had to stop seeing patients for the time being and projects like holding Speech and Hearing Month activities in our communities cannot take place this year.

One of our roles as speech-language pathologists is treating language issues in children, from birth to young adulthood. We thought this year, as many parents and caregivers are unexpectedly home full-time with their children, that our 2020 May initiative would be to reach out to this group of people and offer some information and activities to promote language development with your children.

On this page you can find language-rich activities for children of various ages.

We hope that we have provided you with some fun activities to help you spend quality language-rich time with your children during this stressful time.

Stay safe.
